• Question: why is your job important?

      Hi – Well I am never going to cure cancer. Sadly that is out of my range of abilities but what I hope I can do is find out why we delay going to the doctors when we have symptoms of cancer, and see what would help people go earlier. We know that the earlier we catch most cancers the more likely it is that people will not have to have as much treatment and have less problems from it. They are also far more likely to survive. I also want to see if we can improve how patients and doctors talk to each other to make it an easier and less stressful thing for people.

    I make an impact to patients, family, health professionals and to students.

    So whilst some of my work is direct and impacts, I am also bringing along new health psych trainees and this is important so we have new minds, new thinking and new skills promoting our field and also adding value. This is a particularly important part of my job (and i am very proud of supporting others into our profession)
