There are a lot of psychology degrees, it is a popular subject for many people as it is a good degree to have even if you don’t want to go on to work in psychology. I think all degrees are popular at the moment and universities are places people want to go to. I don’t know the actual stats to answer your question but I think the most important aspect to look for if you are applying is a course that suits you. Also if you want the option of training to be a psychologist make sure it is an approved course – https://www.bps.org.uk/public/become-psychologist/accredited-courses?type=UG

? in my opinion no. There are plenty of courses and combined psychology courses, i dont think there are a lack of courses.

That said, Psychology is popular, because its a wide topic. At LJMU we have a strict student staff ratio for teaching and intake, and whilst student numbers are large the student experience is the priority for the university and as is the quality of teaching offered.

Psychology courses will always be popular because psychology covers a huge variety of topics. In the same course you will get people interested in mental health, people interested in human biology, people interested in pharmacology, people interested in journalism, people interested in social events or marketing… the list goes on!

At the same time, psychology courses offer a huge opportunity to learn and apply new skills which will be useful in every workplace, whether in psychology-focused careers or not, so demand is high.

However, in some fields such as clinical psychology there are many more people applying for the professional chartership (after their degrees) than will actually get direct jobs in this field. This doesn’t mean the degree is not worthwhile or that they’ve wasted their time, just that there is a lot of competition and it may be worth looking at indirect routes into the field too.

So do I think they are over subscribed? No, but they are very popular. Do I think there is a demand issue? Again no, because they are applicable in many career fields not just the ones we tend to think about.
